Sand spa came about by researching the possibilities of Dutch north sea beach sand. Together with an electrode microscope laboratory (FEI) we analyzed the individual sand grains, which showed a variety of minerals that can have a healing function when combined with salt water.  

 

From this, the design of Sand Spa came about, by grinding down the minerals will be more susceptible to activation, and can be mixed with salt water in the basin below. After this, the mixture can be applied to the skin as either a mask or used as a scrub.

 

This prototype is made with magnolia wood on the lathe, however, the ideal material for grinding sand would be diamond or stone.
