Näver *  is a visual and tactile investigation into the craft of birch bark weaving.

In this project I portray one of the many uses of birch throughout history, which is shoes.

Traditional birch bark shoes, were worn by farmers in Scandinavian countries.

I question the link between tradition and popular culture and the relationship between objects and the idea of cultural heritage.

The design is driven by the symbolic connotations of birch bark and also creating a place for this craft acquire a place in the future.

*Näver is swedish for birch bark craft.

The bark I used was foraged by Slöjd Läns Museum Stockholm.
